Lille, France – Germany completed their tasks against Japan and Brazil and is now set to play the hosts of the 2024 Paris Olympics for the top spot in Group B.
The 2023 FIBA World Cup champions have already qualified for the quarterfinals, but securing a top seed out of the group stage is crucial. Andreas Obst understands this.
“Obviously, it’s pretty good, but I think we as a team are more happy that we won this game. We focus on game-to-game results, and the end is most important. Now we move on to the quarterfinals, but we still have one more game in the group, and this is really important for positioning,” the sharpshooter said to Eurohoops after the win over Brazil.
Germany is set to play against France and will also face around 20,000 French fans at the Pierre-Mauroy Stadium.
“Like every other game, we need to recover now. Then we’ve got to scout and prepare ourselves for this game and come ready to play. I know it’s not easy here in front of the home fans, but for sure, we will be ready. We’ve shown that we can play anytime, anywhere, against any opponent.”
He is ready for the challenge.
“It’s an amazing feeling. I’m pretty hyped and motivated to play there against the team and all these fans. For sure, some German fans will also be here for the last game, so it will be an exciting battle.”
Obst assures that Isaac Bonga didn’t need shooting lessons from him after hitting three shots from beyond the arc against Brazil.
“No, he’s all on his own, working hard on this. So, it’s no surprise that he’s making the shots,” Andreas Obst concluded.
