Serbia was losing by 24 points against Australia in the Quarter-Finals of the Olympic Games. But in crazy and thrilling fashion, even after Patty Mills forced overtime with a crazy long-two, they survived.
“Maybe we could have won without overtime, but it’s even sweeter this way”, Vasilije Micic reacted right after the amazing victory by Serbia, talking to Mozzart Sport in the post-game mixed zone.
He analyzed the comeback. “Quarter-Finals are like that, they’re elimination games in which if you think everything is over in the first half, you don’t really have a chance to win. But luckily, practically all of us have some kind of experience, so we got extra energy and responded in the right way”, he said.
Trying to give an explanation to Serbia’s sloppy start, he couldn’t find it. “I don’t have any special answer. It just happens, nobody goes into the game with the intention of losing by 20 points. It was just like that today, but there are so many quality players in our team. We responded energetically in the second quarter. The game is played until the end”, Vasilije Micic added.
Serbia’s number 22 and former EuroLeague MVP was crucial with 14 points and 6 assists for his team. Heading to the Semi-Finals likely against USA Basketball, he has been averaging 13.3 points and 5.5 assists per game over four appearances in Paris 2024.
