Australia’s defeat by Serbia in the 2024 Paris Olympics quarterfinals marked the end of their bronze medal defense from Tokyo and potentially the end of an era for Boomers basketball.
According to Oglun Uluc, the game was the last for 71-year-old coach Brian Goorjian, who had led the team in two stints (2001-09, 2020-24).
However, it seems that Goorjian won’t be the only one leaving.
Patty Mills and Joe Ingles are also expected to retire from international play.
Mills, the standout player for Australia for many years, is likely to retire from the national team at 35. Ingles had indicated that Paris would be his last competition for the national team, having appeared in five Olympics for the Boomers.
