PARIS, France – Against Serbia, Josh Giddey had a bittersweet performance of 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, but also 7 turnovers. Following such a heartbreaking defeat in overtime, after losing a 24-point advantage, the 22-year-old guard left his emotions all out.
“We were so close. We had so many chances… When you have the guys on this team that we do, you believe you have the ability to go all the way. We believed that with this group we were in a great position to win this game, and we came up short getting overtime”, he said to Australian channel 9Now.
“It’s heartbreaking and it kills me that I have to wait 4 more years for another chance at this… This feeling sucks”, he also commented. “I’m so proud of this group, I love this team. Our fans deserved much more than this. I believed we had the group to go all the way. We’ll be back”, Josh Giddey added.
In his first-ever Olympic Games, the current Chicago Bulls guard collected 17.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game, being one of the best players among the Boomers.
Before Paris 2024, he averaged 19.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, where Australia failed to advance to the Quarter-Finals stage.
