The USA Basketball Women’s Team defeated France 67 – 66 in the thrilling Final of the 2024 Olympic Games to win the gold medal for the eighth straight tournament.
A’ja Wilson led the USA team with 21 points, five of them over the last 5:15 of the game, and 13 rebounds. She hit the jumper to put USA up 58 – 55 and gave her team a 63 – 59 lead with 17 seconds remaining.
Both teams traded free throws and then Gabby Williams made a triple for the 65 – 64, to keep France in the game. After 2-2 from the line by Kahleah Cooper, Williams attempted and made a shot from afar at the buzzer but she was stepping on the 3-point line.
Williams was the only France player in double figures, putting up 19 points along with seven rebounds.
Apart from Wilson, Cooper posted 12 points plus five rebounds and Kelsey Plum scored 12 as well.
Earlier, Ezi Magbegor put on a tremendous performance of 30 points and 13 rebounds as Australia beat Belgium 85 – 81 to claim the bronze medal.
Julie Vanloo delivered 23 points and 11 assists for Belgium.
