One problem less for Mexico’s opponents and definitely something that frustrate coach Valdeomillos. By posting a statement on social media, Gustavo Ayon announced that he will not play with the Mexican national team in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament of Turin. A development that obviously hurts Mexico immensely since it loses its leader and best player.
The center of Real Madrid mentioned that he will not be able to help his team because of professional and personal reasons. He also wished his teammates good luck in the tournament.
Mexico will compete against Greece and Iran in Group A of the tournament while Italy, Croatia and Tunisia play in Group B. Two teams from each Group will advance to the semifinals that will decide the pair of the Finals. Only the winner of the tournament will get the ticket to the Olympic Games of Rio.
Without Ayon being absent, the job of his country’s national team is becoming even more difficult and its already small chances to qualify in the Olympics, are obviously being reduced.
