The Olympic Games of Rio ended up in a disappointing manner for France after the defeat by Spain. Furthermore, Tony Parker announced his retirement from the French national team.

Despite the rumors that team captain Boris Diaw would also call it quits from international basketball, he said that: “I’m not retiring tonight.” as reported by L’ Equipe.

The veteran power forward also discussed his team’s problems in the quarterfinal vs Spain: “We were very motivated for this match. There was lots of commitment and desire. But we had also many negatives elements in our game. We failed to have the clarity we hoped to have. We had many problems defensively that were unable to alleviate. Offensively, we did not find solutions. Their defensive system caused us many problems. To put it simply… we did not play well. There are no excuses that have with what was at stake in the match. We should all take responsibility. Personally, I’m not happy with my game. As captain, I haven’t managed to lead the team into playing in the right way.”
