Bogut: “The superman dived into me and the refs bought it”

Australia missed the chance to win a medal, the defeat by Serbia included some questionable calls and Andrew Bogut was not shy about his oppinion after the game.

“Obviously we are disappointed, at times we felt we were outnumbered on the court for the majority of the game,’’ he said. “It felt like we were playing a different sport. The superman dived into me and the referees bought it. Some of them you could see on the tape how obvious they were. You tap these guys and they go flying and the referees bought it. We tried to adjust knowing what they were going to do but the last two fouls were tough on us. I mean you don’t like to make excuses. Spain played a great game, but there were questionable calls throughout the game, that’s FIBA basketball for you, we don’t expect anything less from the referees.”

Coach Andrej Lemanis was more polite about it: “It’s frustrating when their last four points come from the free-throw line on what you would suggest are relatively soft calls. Two-hands on foul on that last (Australia) possession, there are two hands all over the place. It’s what you choose to call and what you choose to let go. In particularly a situation like that, it is hard to swallow…”

Patty Mills was also asked about it:”This is what happens in big basketball games. Things go your way sometimes, things don’t go your way sometimes. You control the ‘controllables'”.
