With the FIBA World Cup quarterfinals over, it has also become known which teams have directly qualified for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
Spain and France got past Poland and USA respectively qualifying to the semifinals and earning the remaining two European direct entries to the 2020 Olympics as the best-placed European teams. Serbia and the Czech Republic were also in the quarterfinals but failed to advance past Argentina and Australia.
Six tickets have already been secured by Team USA and Argentina (Americas), Australia (Oceania), Nigeria (Africa), Iran (Asia) and Japan (host) while the remaining four spots will be decided in the Pre-Olympics qualifiers.
Serbia, the Czech Republic, Poland plus the FIBA World Cup Second Round participants Lithuania, Italy, Greece, Russia, Brazil, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, as well as the best teams from the Classification Round 17-32, Germany, New Zealand, Tunisia, Canada and Turkey will compete in those four tournaments.
The lineup for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments will be completed by two additional teams per region for a total of 24 teams, who will compete in four tournaments of six teams each.
