Zalgiris lured him last season to Europe and he showed his talents. This season with CSKA he proved that he is one of the best Americans in Europe and his game surely fits the NBA standards. Don’t expect him though to be back soon in an NBA uniform. “I mean, I signed a contract here and I plan on fulfilling this contract. Whatever happens in the future happens, but right now I am focused on winning some titles”, he told “eurohoops.net” from O2 Arena in London and added. “I am not thinking about the NBA. Especially at this time, I am thinking of winning tomorrow’s game and hopefully the European championship”.
Weems signed a 2 year contract with CSKA, but has an “NBA out” for this summer. The athletic forward seemed honest in his commitment to CSKA saying that “Last year I was really thinking about it, but this year I’ m not so thinking about it, because… I am at the Final Four and I feel I can make this my basketball life. I love having that, to be a part of a winning team, which can win multiple titles. And I’m down to do that. My future is with CSKA”.
-Last year you weren’t with CSKA, so you didn’t experience the loss from Olympiacos with the game winning shot of Printezis. Do your teammates still talk about that, is it still in their mind;
“It is. We talk about is sometimes very briefly, we bring it up. But what they did last year, it’s in the past. Right now we’re focusing on not letting them doing it again, play CSKA basketball and hopefully going home with the European championship”.
-When you signed to CSKA it was like you were signed a contract with an obligation to get titles?
“Oh yes. For sure. They demand to win. No matter what game we play, it’s always a pressure to win. I love being a part of a club which thinks like that. It’s all about winning, winning… No losing here. I enjoy being a part of it”.
-How easy is for a player to take this huge challenge and live up to the expectations?
“Just being myself. I think I did a great job with that, this season. Being Sony Weems and helping my team win. Hopefully in these two games we will keep doing it and we will be the champions”
