Basketball Africa League (BAL) announced the 12 teams from 12 countries that will compete in the league’s inaugural season, which is set to tip-off on Friday, March 13 in Dakar, Senegal.
The announcement was made by BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall at the NBA All-Star 2020 Africa Luncheon in Chicago. Champions from national leagues in six countries – Angola, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal and Tunisia – were guaranteed for their presence in the inaugural BAL season, while the rest of the teams will represent Algeria, Cameroon, Madagascar, Mali, Mozambique and Rwanda, and secured their participation through BAL qualifying tournaments conducted by FIBA Africa in 2019.
These are the 12 teams to compete in the first BAL season, tipping off in March:
