J’Covan Brown scored 22 points and dished out seven assists, Shelvin Mack added 20 points and seven dimes of his own as Hapoel Jerusalem defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv 98 – 87 at home in a game for Round 21 of the Israeli Winner League.
Scottie Wilbekin led Maccabi with 20 points while Othello Hunter had 13 points and seven rebounds.
Hapoel made a hot entrance in the game to lead 39 – 27 in the first quarter and then reached halftime up 61 – 41. Maccabi was late to react and unable to counter Hapoel’s strong shooting display (14/29 3-pointers). The “Yellows” just cut the margin below 20 in the fourth period.
Tashawn Thomas added 19 points and six rebounds for Hapoel.
This result improved second-placed Hapoel 17 – 4. Maccabi dropped to 19-2 but remains first in the standings.
Despite the Israeli Ministry of Health ordering a ban of gatherings of 5,000 people in indoor spaces due to the coronavirus outbreak, the registered attendance of the match was 8,235, per Winner League.
