The Ivy League informed via press release on Tuesday on its decision to cancel the men’s and women’s Basketball Tournaments for health reasons connected with the coronavirus situation. The threat of the COVID-19 spread that already directly affects international club competitions and national leagues all around Europe, makes its way to the USA.

“We understand and share the disappointment with student-athletes, coaches and fans who will not be able to participate in these tournaments,” mentioned Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris, “Regrettably, the information and recommendations presented to us from public health authorities and medical professionals have convinced us that this is the most prudent decision.”

As established, the Basketball Tournaments would produce the automatic qualifiers for both men’s and women’s NCAA Tournaments. Regular Season champions, Yale in the men’s division and Princeton in the women’s will instead represent the Ivy League in the postseason proceedings.

Additionally, the League will limit spectators for all other sporting events. The League is also canceling out-of-season practices and competitions.
