The Bulgarian League, NBL, is among the competitions halted, in response to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the country’s basketball federation, BBF, announced the plans for an online tournament via a special NBA 2K20 version updated with the top-tier teams.
“In all likelihood, the COVID-19 coronavirus will not allow basketball action to resume in the next two months,” noted BBF president, Georgi Glouchkov, “So we decided to give fans the chance to play from home.”
Registration will open towards the end of the week through the federation’s website. The tournament is scheduled to be held in April and May with 16 groups of 32 teams each. Participation will be free. BBF also hopes that the most important games will be broadcast nationally.
The NBL season is temporarily suspended since March 13. The General Assembly is expected to soon determine whether to cancel the 2019-20 campaign or wait with the initial deadline for the decision, March 30, quickly approaching.
