Yao Ming, president of the Chinese Basketball Association, offered three options for concluding the 2019-20 season in China, that has been halted since February 1 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The options Ming presented in state TV CCTV were the following: the league to play out the full schedule, play a shortened season and skip some games, or end the regular season and go straight to the playoffs based on teams’ current standings. A tournament to conclude the season was also among the options if not all scheduled games can be ultimately played.
Ming also stated that teams would also be quarantined in hotels and no fans will be in attendance if the season restarts. Currently, most of the league’s foreign players are self-isolating back in China waiting for action to restart.
CBA has been trying to create the outline of its season conclusion for the last two months, with action possibly resuming on July 1 as reported a few weeks prior. The final decision for the exact date is still pending.
