Marius Grigonis scored 20 out of his game-high 26 points in the second half while dishing out six assists and grabbing five rebounds as Zalgiris Kaunas defeated Pieno 95 – 76. Martin Schiller’s team is now 15 – 2 in the Lithuanian League and remains the leader on the standings.
Thanks to Grigonis’ output and Thomas Walkup being everywhere on the floor (10 points, 11 assists, eight rebounds), Zalgiris turned a balanced game into a one-sided affair. Pieno was leading 42 – 48 at halftime but the hosts dominated the third period 30 – 19 and overpowered their opponents 23 – 9 in the fourth quarter to cruise towards the win.
Jahenns-Ley Manigat dropped 16 points for Pieno while Branko Mirkovic had 15 points and five assists and Karolis Geidratis scored 15 for Pieno that is now 8 – 11. Martins Geben added 15 points for Zalgiris.
On Wednesday, Rytas defeated Nevezis, 81-73, upping its LKL record to 14-5. Rapolas Ivanauskas scored a team-high 13 points.
Juventus jumped to 14-6 by taking down CBet Prienai, 94-91. Martynas Gecevicius led the way with 29 points.
