LKL announced Tuesday the board decisions regarding the 2021-22 season of the Lithuanian league.

The participating teams will rise from 10 to 11. The ten current top-tier sides will all retain their spot in the first division. CBet Jonava promoted from the second-tier NKL will join the pack forming an 11-team field for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

The new format features a 30-game schedule instead of the current 36-game schedule with the ten teams facing each other four times, twice at home and twice on the road. A traditional round-robin schedule will apply for the first 20 games of each team in the 2021-22 season, while a draw will determine the hosts and guests of the third-round fixtures, except for Zalgiris which will constantly be on the road.

The LKL board, consisting of representatives of the ten top-division teams of the 2020-21 season, president Remigijus Milasius and director Romualdas Brazauskas, approved the changes unanimously.
