Cyprus is one of the four co-hosts of Eurobasket 2025 and the celebrations centered around the sport have already been begun by one of the country’s oldest basketball clubs, Keravnos Strovolou.
On a special event, which the president of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis attended, the club of Keravnos, which is currently competing in the FIBA Europe Cup, honored its long-time president for his 50 years of contribution to the team on and off the court.
In the presence of other local political figures and sports personalities both from Cyprus and Greece, Paris Papaellinas and others had the chance to reminisce about the history of the club and the sport on the Mediterranean island, while a short documentary on this subject was also presented.
Εuroleague legend Dimitris Diamantidis, Greek federation president Vaggelis Liolios, former Greek national team members Nikos Filippou and Memos Ioannou and of course the team of Keravnos led by coach Michalis Kakiouzis, a former captain of the Greek national team, attended the event.
Papaellinas, who is a former player of the club and also played for the Cypriot national team, had also the honor of seeing his jersey with no.6 retired.
