Until now, the NBL was importing European prospects which considered Australia an alternate way to make it to the NBA draft, but Lassi Tuovi can make history as the first coach in Europe who gets appointed in the Australian league.
The Sydney Kings completed a great season in the Australian NBL, as they managed to conquer their fifth championship title (and second in a row). However, they are still looking to appoint the next head coach that will have the task to keep them on top of the league, as the contract of Chase Bufford was not extended.
According to sources, the board of the Kings has interviewed a few American coaches, mainly with G-league experience, but in their list, there is also one European candidate.
The Finnish national team coach Lassi Tuovi, who despite his young age has led his country to its biggest success in last year’s Eurobasket and is preparing for the World Cup, after being the first team in Europe to secure qualification.
Sydney which has already signed American forward DJ Hogg as the club’s first import for next season, will reach a final decision in the next few days.
