Managing a comfortable lead for most of the way, Zalgiris earned a convincing win versus domestic rival Rytas.
The defending champions in Lithuania’s Betsafe LKL prevailed, 81-67, in Avia Solutions Group Arena on Sunday.
Coming off an individual scoring record in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, Tomas Dimsa put in a game-high 17 points with 6/11 field goals. Apart from the 29-year-old shooting guard, Keenan Evans and Edgaras Ulanovas packing 15 and 12 points, respectively, were the remaining double-digit scorers for the team coached by Kazys Maksvytis in Vilnius.
On the losing end of the matchup, R.J. Cole stood out with team-highs of 13 points and four assists. Justin Gorham ended up with 11 points and six rebounds. Team captain Margiris Normantas had ten points.
The Kaunas outfit, missing Danielius Lavrinovicius (ankle) for yet another outing, jumped to 8-0 in the Regular Season of Lithuania’s top-tier division, forcing the domestic rival to 7-1. Wolves later matched Rytas in second place with a win, 77-71, against Juventus.
A visit to Anadolu Efes on Thursday paints the next challenge in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague for Zalgiris. Two losses in a row at home lowered the W-L tally to 3-3.
Combining domestic and continental action as well, the team guided by Giedrius Zibenas faces a 0-2 start in Group B of the BCL Regular Season. A must-win situation arises in Gameday 3 of the double-legged round-robin schedule with Czechia champion Opava visiting the ASG Arena on November 14.
