Bouncing back from the loss against LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne on Thursday, Zalgiris matched Rytas at 13-2 on top of the Betsafe LKL Regular Season standings.
From a two-game week in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague to a win, 75-67, versus CBet in Jonavos Sports Arena on Sunday. Italian play-caller Andrea Trinchieri notched a second win over three games since taking over head-coaching responsibilities from Kazys Maksvytis.
The Kaunas outfit never trailed, instead navigated most of the 40 minutes with a double-digit advantage en route to a fourth straight domestic win. Rolands Smits paired 15 points with seven rebounds and Laurynas Birutis produced 15 points with 6/8 two-pointers. Edmond Sumner followed with 11 points. Arnas Butkevicius (foot) remained sidelined.
On the opposite end, Lukas Kreismontas earned a share of a game-high with 15 points to his name. Michael Hughes tallied 13 points against the defending champions in Lithuania. The team coached by Virginijus Seskus was forced down to 7-9.
After splitting the two-game week with a home win against ALBA Berlin and a loss to ASVEL in France, the Italian mastermind enjoyed a win in his first coaching showing in the domestic league of Lithuania. A long way to go on both fronts, including another two-game week at the continental level with road challenges against Valencia on Tuesday and FC Barcelona on Friday. At 6-13, the distance from the Play-In zone has grown to four games with 15 fixtures remaining on the double-legged round-robin schedule.
