The serious injury to their leader Keenan Evans proved to be a major shock to Zalgiris who could not overcome it in the LKL Finals no matter how hard they fought.
On the contrary, Marcus Foster made this happen, even in the last game of the Finals with 33 points as Rytas got the 88-87 and the championship title with 3-1 wins.
Edmond Sumners had 21 points and six assists for Zalgiris.
Foster was also named MVP of the finals with 20.5 points and 3.3 assists per average.
“I didn’t know that we had Usain Bolt as a referee”
Zalgiris had the chance to steal the game in the last play, but Lukas Lekavicius’ open three-pointer of Lukas Lekavicius found iron. Rytas players got the rebound and lost the ball to Zalgiris guard Arnas Butkevicius, who got fouled apparently after the time had expired.
“That was a foul on Arnas”, said Zalgiris coach Andrea Trinchieri in the post-game conference. “I asked to check because he stole the ball, and there was a contact. I asked the referees to check, but they were already under the shower. I didn’t know that we had Usain Bolt as a referee, so they had to find them to check. It was like a prank, I was asking, ‘Where are the referees?’ and nobody knew where the referees were”.
