Johannes Thiemann moves to Japan with Gunma Crane Thunders

After six years and 359 games, Johannes Thiemann left ALBA Berlin and is now officially at a new address.

The former ALBA captain is joining Gunma Crane Thunders of the Japanese B.League, as the two sides have agreed on a contract for the 2024/25 season.

Hey Gunma fans, it’s Johannes Thiemann! I am looking forward to wearing the Gunma jersey and competing with the team in the B.League. I am willing to give 100% of my capabilities to make the Gunma organization, management, staff, and fans proud and to achieve the best possible results together. I can’t wait to see all of you in the Gunma Crane Thunders arena next season,” Thiemann said.

The 2023 FIBA World Cup winner with Germany won three BBL championships with ALBA and two with Brose Bamberg. In 2022, he was the Finals MVP, playing for the Berlin side.

Last season, he averaged 12.7 points and 5.2 rebounds in the EuroLeague and is set to represent Germany in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
