His career has been various and colorful, playing in several countries and leagues, but Axel Toupane never played in Mexico before. Things will change now, as the Diablos Rojos announced his arrival.

The 32-year-old French forward spent the last two seasons in his home country, first with Paris Basketball and then with the relegated side of Metropolitans 92, where he put up 12.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game in last year’s LNB.

He debuted early in the EuroLeague with SIG Strasbourg during the 2013-14 season and returned to the highest European competition four years later with Zalgiris Kaunas. His latest EuroLeague games came during the 2018-19 campaign with Olympiacos, averaging 4.8 points per game.

Undrafted in 2014, he had his first NBA opportunity with the Denver Nuggets two years later. From then on, he also wore the jerseys of the Milwaukee Bucks (in 2017 and 2021, when he was part of the NBA Championship’s winning roster), and New Orleans Pelicans.

Being first called up to the senior French national team in 2017, he contributed to his country winning the bronze medal at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China. With France U20, he won the bronze medal at EuroBasket 2011 in Spain and the silver medal at EuroBasket 2012 in Slovenia.
