The London Lions are going through a new era, being bought by new ownership featuring the Lithuanian company Tesonet and the historic EuroLeague club of Zalgiris Kaunas, saving them from dissolution.
While one of the most interesting names on last year’s roster, Matt Morgan, signed in the EuroLeague with Virtus Bologna, it was unclear what the future would have held for Sam Dekker. Now, however, his wife Olivia provided an update on her YouTube channel, with her words reported by Ball in Europe.
“We spent so much time stressing about this but, the other day, we got incredible news. The team is going to honor the next two years on Sam [Dekker]’s contract, which was made by the previous ownership”, she said. “We spent a good bit of the summer stressing. We went through different scenarios. Some of these involved Sam [Dekker] would live on a different side of the world”, she added.
However, the 30-year-old experienced forward could play elsewhere next season. “There’s some confusion over the salary cap and if Sam [Dekker] will be playing for the Lions this year. He may have to be loaned out. That’s not my thing to talk about so I’m not going to. I just know that the Lions are doing right by Sam [Dekker], right by us, and we still get to go to London”, Sam Dekker’s wife revealed.
In the 2023-24 BKT EuroCup campaign, where the British side reached the Semi-Finals only to lose to then-champions of Paris Basketball, the former Houston Rockets player averaged 11.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, shooting 56.4% from two-point range.
