Roger Grimau took the reins at Barcelona from Sarunas Jasikevicius, making a significant step forward in his coaching career in the summer of 2023.

After one season, he left the Catalan side and is still searching for his next position, which he might soon find—in Romania. According to Romanian media, the former Barcelona coach is one of the candidates to take over at Dinamo Bucharest.

He hasn’t signed. This is a process of feeling things out at the moment. It’s true that he came to Romania and is among our top options. He’ll stay in Romania for two days, and we’ll see if we can come to an agreement,” said Alexandru Iacobescu, manager of Dinamo Bucharest, to GSP.ro.

CS Dinamo Bucharest has had a poor start to the season, prompting the management to replace Dragan Nikolic, the Serbian coach who joined this summer. One of the most notable names on the list of potential candidates to replace him is Roger Grimau.

Even though Grimau hasn’t coached for very long, he did complete an entire season in the EuroLeague with Barcelona. We know his agent, have a good relationship with him, and decided to try this route. As I said earlier, these are just preliminary talks. We’ll see exactly what happens over the next two days while he’s in Romania,” Iacobescu added.

In his sole season on Barcelona’s bench, Grimau did not manage to win a trophy, losing in the EuroLeague playoffs against Olympiacos and in the ACB Semi-Finals, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Supercup to Real Madrid.
