Zalgiris Kaunas haven’t been living the best of moments, losing four of their last five games in the EuroLeague. However, both in the domestic league and now in the Lithuanian Cup, things are different.
Beating Lietkabelis 79-56 in the Semi-Finals of the King Mindaugas Cup, they made their way to the final. They haven’t lost the title since the 2019-20 season.
Lonnie Walker IV was Andrea Trinchieri’s team’s highest scorer with 19 points off the bench, followed by a solid contribution by both Sylvain Francisco (14 points and 5 assists) and Ignas Bradzeikis (16 points).
On the losing side, Mantas Rubštavičius finished with a losing effort of 14 points and 4 boards.
Earlier in the day, Neptunas Klaipeda surprisingly eliminated BC Wolves, who are still contending in the BKT EuroCup Playoffs. It’s the first time in the small Lithuanian club’s history that they will contend in the final of the Lithuanian Cup.
Desure Buie was crucial for his team, leading with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists against Alessandro Magro’s side. The two composed of Anthony Cowan (21 points and 8 assists) and Tre’shawn Thurman (20 points and 9 boards) wasn’t enough for BC Wolves to stay alive and advance to the final.
