Following his playing career, Andrew Bogut has opened a coaching career.
He was named assistant coach of the Sydney Kings on Wednesday.
The 40-year-old Australian was already a part of the ownership group. His addition to the coaching staff headlined key changes made by head coach Brian Goorjian.
“Being a three-time Olympian and an NBA champion, Andrew has a blue-chip pedigree,” the 71-year-old tactician described his reunion with Bogut after coaching him as the selector the senior national team of Australia, “His knowledge of the game is elite and I know he will be a very valuable addition to our coaching staff.”
“Andrew and I already enjoy a strong relationship and I am excited and feel fortunate to have someone of his calibre by my side,” added Goorjian.
Back in 2005, Bogut was the top pick of the NBA draft. He went on to become an NBA champion in 2015 and a veteran of 783 games in the league based in North America, spread between the Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Representing Australia in major international tournaments went from the junior level to the Olympic Games in 2004, 2008, and 2016, in addition to two appearances in the FIBA World Cup of 2006 and 2019, leading into the FIBA Hall of Fame Class of 2025.
“Being away from the game for five years, the itch to get back on the court was growing stronger with time,” mentioned Bogut, “I’m honoured to step into this position and work alongside Brian.”
“Coaching is something I’m passionate about, and I can’t wait to help drive this team forward,” he added.
