Tsmoki Minsk’s Justin Gray made the unthinkable, as he scored on his own basket, asking from the referees to count the basket in order for the match against AEK Larnaca to go into overtime.
More specifically, Tsmoki were facing AEK Larnaca for FIBA Europe Cup Last 32’s sixth round. The team from Belarus had to prevail over their opponents by more than five points in order to advance to the next phase, having lost to AEK Larnaca 73-68 in the first match.
Although the hosts were in front by four (86-82), AEK’s Thaddus Mcfadden hit two free throws to cut the deficit to two points (86-84), with three seconds to go. Tsmoki’s players were running out of time and Gray had no other option, but to score on his own basket. However, the referees didn’t count it, with AEK Larnaka losing the game (86-84), but qualifying to the next phase.
