Hapoel Jerusalem got the 73-66 win over arch-rival Maccabi Tel Aviv, which is having its worst season ever in its illustrious history. Not only they missed the Euroleague Top16, but Maccabi now has a 16-8 record in the Israeli league.
On the contrary Hapoel with a 18-6 all but locked the top spot of the regular season and Yotam Halperin, a former Maccabi Tel Aviv star, scored 23 points against his old team. An other former Maccabi player, Lior Eliyahu, added 10 points and Eli Holman had 12.
Maccabi Tel Aviv was the 2014 Euroleague champion, has a total of 51 Israeli league titles and until recently every defeat by domestic league rivals was headline news all over Europe, but not this season…
