The Israeli Winner league game between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv was a local derby… only on paper! The “Yellows” absolutely obliterated their arch-rivals 116 – 86 and are now second in the standings with a 23-9 record. Meanwhile, Hapoel is eighth with a 14-18 record as only one game remain for the conclusion of the regular season.
You are probably thinking that the final difference between the two teams looks incredible. Well, get prepared to be amazed because the halftime score was 70 – 37 (!). Yes, you read that right. Maccabi had sank 10 three-pointers in the first half to make short work of Hapoel quite early in the match and then simply preserved its strong lead until the final buzzer.
Sylven Landesberg scored 21 points for Maccabi Tel Aviv. For Hapoel Tel Aviv, Tre Simmons finished the game with 18 points and Nate Robinson stopped at 11.
