On Day 14 of the LKL, Lithuanian League, Lietuvos Rytas defeated Zalgiris Kaunas, 63-65 on the road on a tough last-minute victory, improving its record to 10-4 while the home side slipped to 12-2.
The fourth quarter: Zalgiris had the upper hand in the first seven minutes of the final period but Lietuvos with Martynas Echodas leading the way, managed to come back and regain the lead (61-62). Zalgiris responded and went up ahead (63-62), but not long before the visitors scored a lay-up with just 32 seconds left on the clock. In the last possession of the game, Zalgiris had a chance to win the game but fell short.
The game started off with the visiting side going on an impressive 5-16 (4:44) run with Mavrokefalidis leading the way, showcasing its early intentions. Zalgiris, however, cut the lead to just two points (16-18) by the end of the first period. In the second quarter, the home team went up ahead by four points (25-21). The first half finally ended a close, defensive game, 29-30.
In the third period, the game remained close, physical and defensive but the home side seemed to have the upper hand (45-39), as Jasikevicious squad built a six-point lead. Even though the visitors tried to challenge in the late third quarter, Kaunas’ team kept this six-point lead. In the final quarter the game remained competitive, defensive but in the final minute, Lietuvos got the last laugh.
Travis Petterson finished with 17 points, while Martynas Echodas added 14.
