Kirk Penney played the last game of a long and quite successful 19-year career last night and his teammates bid an emotional and quite fitting farewell to him.
Following the 88 – 86 overtime loss and 2-0 sweep of the New Zealand Breakers by the Melbourne United in the Australian NBL League semifinals, Penney watched his teammates perform the traditional Haka dance to honor one of the best basketball players in the country’s history.
What a career, the @NZBreakers show respect to @kirkpenney in the most moving fashion post-game with the Tall Blacks traditional haka. You’ll be missed, Kirk #NBL pic.twitter.com/GBSyxx77fN
