20-year-old Layrunas Birutis scored 21 points and grabbed 5 rebounds for a team-high 27 PIR, helping Siauliai grab a 93- 90 victory over first-placed Zalgiris Kaunas in Round 28 of the Lithuanian League regular season.
Brandon Davies’ 25 points weren’t enough for Zalgiris Kaunas that found themselves trailing from the first period and only managed to catch up with its opponents late.
Zalgiris entered the fourth quarter down by 10, 74 – 64 and thanks to Davies they erased that deficit and even led 86 – 88 after a basket by the American big guy.
Siauliai kept its cool though and once again got the lead. Donatas Sabeckis scored the free throw to put his team up by 3 with 12 seconds left, Zalgiris failed to find a good shot and the hosts reached a triumphant result.
