Maccabi Ashdod shocked Maccabi Tel Aviv with an impressive 86 – 79 win at home.
Since the start, the home side challenged the visitors and did not allow Tel Aviv’s team to win a single quarter. At the half, Ashdod’s team was leading by seven points (43-36). In the final minute of the contest, Spahija’s squad was trying to come back but it was too little too late.
The hosts won their ninth straight win and improved their record to 18-9, while the visitors slipped to 18-9. The two teams are now tied for the number one seed in the Israeli League, which could be vital come playoff time.
For the winners, Sek Henry put up 18 points.
For Tel Aviv, Alex Tyus had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Tel Aviv, while Norris Cole added 13.
