Jaylen Hoard began his NCAA career on Saturday night and led Wake Forest (1-0) to a 90-78 win against North Carolina A&T (0-2). The 19-year-old French forward started with 19-point and 13-board double-double and also dished three assists in 29 minutes. His compatriot, Olivier Sarr, scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
“McCarthey Athletic Center” also had a European flavor, as Filip Petrusev scored 14 points and Joel Ayayi four in Gonzaga’s (2-0) 104-67 victory over Texas Southern (1-1). Killian Tillie is also a Bulldogs player, but is currently sidelined due to an ankle injury.
Italian sensation Alessandro Lever sank 14 points in Grand Canyon’s (1-1) 89-47 win against Delaware State (0-2). Latvian Roberts Blumbergs added two.
Dutch Matt Haarms scored 16 points for #24 Purdue (2-0) in its 84-75 win over Ball State (1-1) and also grabbed four rebounds.
Serbian Milos Supica had six points, 12 boards and two blocks in Charlotte’s (1-1) 66-64 win against Oklahoma State (0-1).
