Maccabi Tel Aviv had to overcome a 23-point deficit in the second period to ultimately defeat Nes Ziona 87 – 82 at home for Round 20 of the Israeli Winner League.
Nes Ziona got a 17 – 40 lead early in the second quarter but then Maccabi reacted strong enough to cut the deficit to single digits (43 – 52) at halftime. The “Yellows” took over in the fourth period, during which they forced their opponents to just 11 points to win the match.
Scottie Wilbekin scored a game-high 20 points in 19 minutes for Maccabi that improved to 15 – 4 with this win and climbed to the top of the standings. Jeremy Pargo added 15 points and Johnny O’ Bryant 13.
Talib Zanna posted a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds for Nes Ziona. Gary Ramirez scored 15 points and Golan Gutt had 14 points and seven rebounds.
This defeat dropped Nes Ziona to 9 – 11.
