Sophomore Italian guard Davide Moretti was among the main contributors for Texas Tech in the historic 75-69 victory against Gonzaga at Anaheim on Saturday. The Red Raiders secured a Final Four spot for the first time. Moretti sank two clutch three-pointers and finished with 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in 33 minutes. Junior French forward Killian Tillie scored three points for the losing side.
The winner of the Sunday’s Elite Eight game between Duke and Michigan State will be Texas Tech’s opponent in the Final Four, which will be played at Minneapolis. Kentucky or Auburn will go against Virginia that defeated Purdue, 80-75, at Louisville overcoming Dutch sophomore center Matt Haarms’ six points, three rebounds, two assists and three blocks.
In the shadow of the NCAA Tournament, the NIT Final Four to be played at the Madison Square Garden on April 2nd and 4th was set. Texas Christian will go against Texas and Lipscomb will face Wichita State in the semifinals.
Also, DePaul and South Florida advanced to the best-of-three finals of the College Basketball Invitational. Hampton versus Marshall and Texas Southern versus Green Bay are the semifinals of the CIT.
