Elan Chalon beat ASVEL Villeurbanne 99 – 96 in overtime and overthrew the French Jeep Elite League defending champions from the top of the standings. ASVEL is now third after falling to 19 -4 while the winning squad improved to 9 – 14.
Sean Armand scored 23 points while Mickael Gelabale dropped 16 points while hitting the 3-pointer that forced the extra period. Jaron Johnson had 14 points and seven rebounds.
Livio Jean-Charles was the top performer of ASVEL with 18 points and eight rebounds. NBA prospect Theo Maledon scored 15 points in 18 minutes.
The loss of ASVEL was a much-welcomed result to Monaco and Dijon that climbed at the top of the table after defeating Chalon-Reims and Pau Orthez respectively. These wins improved the new standings leaders to 20-3.
Monaco, Dijon and ASVEL will now compete in the French Leaders Cup tournament that begins Friday (14/2), together with Strasbourg, Bourg-en-Bresse, Boulogne-Levallois, Cholet and Nanterre.
