Basketball competitions in France have been suspended since March 12 but the league still hasn’t made the final decision about the 2019-20 campaign as well as about the format of the upcoming one.
According to L’Equipe, that call will be made on May 27 as the clubs vote on whether to continue the season as well as how to proceed into the next season (relegation, promotion, number of teams, schedule) in either case. The First Division was initially supposed to be cut to 16 from 18 teams for the 2020-21 campaign.
L’Equipe also noted that, according to their information, the chances to resume the season are close to none. It should be noted that there have also been discussions about an alternative – to merge the two seasons together with all or a part of the results being transferred.
French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced earlier in April that no sporting events can take place in the country until at least September.
