French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a second national lockdown for at least until the end of November and while professional sports may continue their action, the professional basketball in France is taking a break, at least for the upcoming weekend.
Michel Mimran, the general director of the LNB, has announced that the league decided to postpone all action in the JeepElite (ProA) and ProB for the upcoming weekend, starting from Friday. A decision for the rest of the November games is pending, however, things are not looking good for French basketball.
Dominique Juillot, the president of Elan Chalon, stated today to “L’Equipe”: “it’s financial suicide to continue playing without fans, or with just 1.000 of them allowed on the gym”.
The League expects to know the details for a possible financial aid program from the French state for professional sports, however, the scenario of not having games in France during November is more than possible.
As LNB announced: “The Directors’ Committee will take a decision for the rounds scheduled for November as soon as the Government provides additional details to the President’s statements on professional sport”.
