JDA Dijon announced that Nenad Markovic will be taking over the head coaching responsibilities as the sides agreed on a two-year deal.
The 53-year-old coach has been working in Turkey for the past seven years with Trabzon, Pinar Karsiyaka, and Gaziantep. Gaziantep reached the playoffs this season as the eighth seed but got eliminated by the reigning champions Anadolu Efes.
“After 7 years in Turkey, I am very happy with this new challenge that awaits me in Dijon. I have had many experiences in Europe and I must say that the project led by the leaders of the club seems very interesting and ambitious. I already know a little of France, Burgundy and Dijon, having come there several times as a Limoges player and having won the 3-point shooting competition at the Palais des Sports during the All Star Game 1998,” Markovic said and added.
“By signing in Dijon, I will return to the French championship and I am very happy. It’s a league that is progressing season after season and that I have continued to follow, because I am close to Zvezdan Mitrovic in particular and because I continue to follow the evolution of Limoges. I have also noticed that in recent seasons, the JDA has established itself as a major club in the Jeep Elite, both in terms of organization and results and I am ready to get involved in this project.”
Dijon got eliminated early this season in the Basketball Champions League but has been on a run recently in the French league where they currently top the standings with a 25-7 record and have secured a spot among the top four in front of the playoffs.
