A historical change will occur in the French league for the next three seasons

According to BeBasket, an important change will occur in the LNB Pro Elite, as the French league is ready to introduce a salary cap system in order to protect the fairness of the championship with the budgets of EuroLeague teams like ASVEL and AS Monaco increasing high and high.

For the upcoming three seasons, in fact, as agreed with team owners, the French clubs will need to have their salaries under a determined ceiling, with a luxury tax to be paid by all clubs, exceeding it.

This historical change, which will be an absolute novelty in the European landscape, appears to be introduced following a huge increase in salary by AS Monaco, which got its payrolls up by 60% from 2021-22 to 2022-23 for a total of 10.8 million euros. They’re followed by ASVEL’s 4.2 million.
