Strasbourg upsets Monaco on the road before EL playoffs

In its last French League game before the EuroLeague playoff series vs. Maccabi Tel Aviv, AS Monaco suffered an upset at home to Strasbourg.

Led by Paul Lacombe and his 21 points, Strasbourg stunned league leader Monaco 98 – 89 in overtime to improve to 13-15 and take a big step towards moving to the playoff spots. The visiting side dominated the extra period 2-11 to get the win.

Strasbourg led by 39 – 54 at halftime before Monaco came back to eventually move up 74 – 72 in the mid of the fourth quarter. Lacombe gave Strasbourg an 84 – 87 lead with a triple and 13 seconds to play but Mike James forced the overtime, answering with the same currency.

The additional five minutes were a Strasbourg monologue. Monaco, that was minus guard Jordan Loyd, dropped to 25-6 but has already secured first seed.

James finished with 25 points, four assists and four rebounds. Jaron Blossongame had 12 points plus five boards and Donatas Motiejunas scored 12.

DeAndre Lansdowne had 16 points and Tim Frazier notched 15 points, nine assists and six rebounds for Strasbourg. Leopold Cavaliere posted 15 points, nine rebounds plus four steals.
