Monaco won first nine games in Betclic ELITE, entered the Round 10 match with seven straight wins in both competitions, but got stopped on the road against Nancy.
The hosts grabbed a surpising 94-86 win over reigning champions to improve to 6-3, while Sasa Obradovic’s team fell to 9-1, but stayed at the top of the standings.
Monaco didn’t have an answer for Shevon Thompson who led the winning side with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Former NBA player Frank Mason added 18 with eight assists for the winning side, while Jordan Bowden scored 13 and Tyren Johnson 11 points.
Terry Tarpey led the Roca team with 17 points, Mike James added 12, and Elie Okobo nine points.
Monaco had a lead after 10 minutes, but dropped it midway trough the second period, when Nancy started taking control. Defending champions managed to tie the score in the third period to 63-63, but couldn’t turn it around. Nancy made a key 12-2 run during opening of the final quarter, and the guests only managed to come within five points twice in the last minutes, but Nancy stayed calm and perserved the advantage to capture one of the biggest wins of the season in France.
Obradovic’s side, which is on a 4-0 run in EuroLeague, will face LDLC ASVEL next week in Round 7 of the elite competition.
