Defending champions AS Monaco Basket made their way to the French Cup quarterfinals, defeating the most successful team in the competition, LDLC ASVEL.
Sasa Obradovic’s side, which won the Cup last season for the first time, defeated the 10-time winners 92-82 in the eightfinals clash at Gaston Medecin Hall.
Mike James was on the verge of a double-double with 16 points and nine assists for the winning side, while Donatas Motiejunas followed him with 16 points.
Elie Okobo and Matthew Strazel added 12 points each for Monaco, while Yakuba Ouattara also finished in double figures with 10 points.
As for ASVEL, which lost the grip of the match in the final 10 minutes, Mike Scott had 13 points with six rebounds, while Timothe Luwawu Cabarrot and Charles Kahudi added 11 points each.
Nanterre also made it to the quarterfinals with a 76-74 win over Saint Quentin. Strasbourg is through thanks to an 87-77 win over Cholet, while Nancy defeated JL Bourg 95-87 in the eightfinals. JDA Dijon also advanced to the top eight with a late 80-85 victory against Le Mans.
The Top 8 of the French Cup will take place on March 16 and March 17 at the Arena Loire in Trelaze.
