As Le Parisien reports, the broadcast of French Betclic Elite Round 30 matches and the entire end of the season are under threat.
According to information from the French media outlet, the L’Equipe group, which oversees the broadcasting of French Championship matches through its subsidiary 21 Prod, sent a registered letter to Skweek, the official broadcaster of the French Championship and the Euroleague, on Wednesday morning, to terminate their current contract.
Since the beginning of the season, the digital platform owned by FedCom Media, a subsidiary of the multinational FedCom, has allegedly accumulated unpaid and delayed payments with its partners, amounting to several million euros.
Le Parisien’s report indicates that initial payments were made, but they fell short of the expected amounts by various partners. This prompted the L’Equipe group to send the letter.
According to a report from French media, the Euroleague has also allegedly threatened Skweek with the withdrawal of broadcasting rights for the premier competition in Europe by the end of the season.
Additionally, Skweek has reportedly paid only two million euros out of the agreed seven million to ASVEL for their jersey sponsorship.
Everything mentioned is expected to be addressed during the general assembly of the National Basketball League, scheduled for this Wednesday afternoon, Le Parisien concludes.
Meanwhile, Skweek’s top management, speaking recently in Eurohoops, presented its plans for the future, insisting that those issues are only temporary and nothing will change in their vision and their investment.
However, Wednesdsay’s game Roanne-Monaco wasn’t broadcasted and the French league on their social media expressed their disappointment.
