Mike James drops 23 points for Monaco, Paris and ASVEL win

AS Monaco held on in Antares to beat Le Mans, 81-74, on Sunday.

Mike James tucked in five three-pointers on the way to a game-high 23 points and Matthew Strazel followed with 16 points, helping the team coached by Vassilis Spanoulis repel a late comeback bid and improve to 12-4 in France’s Betclic Elite Regular Season. Besides Jordan Loyd (hamstring) and Elie Okobo (foot), Giorgos Papagiannis sat out the Round 17 fixture as well.

With Paris later defeating Cholet, 90-77, the back-to-back champions reduced the distance from the top of the standings to half a game. In Adidas Arena, Maodo Lo and Nadir Hifi shared a game-high 16 points for the team based in the French capital. Sebastian Herrera and Leon Kratzer did not suit up, and Daulton Hommes (leg) stayed on the injury list.

Entering a three-way tie in first place at 13-4, LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne made short work of SIG Strasbourg, 95-70, in Astroballe. Theo Maledon paved the way for the team coached by Pierric Poupet with 16 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Charles Kahudi (groin) and Mbaye Ndiaye (knee) remained sidelined.
