Monaco had a ferocious stretch in the second half to defeat ASVEL

Jordan Loyd scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds to push AS Monaco past ASVEL Villeurbanne 83 – 70 in the first of the two French Cup semifinal games.

Daniel Theis made his debut with Monaco, registering six points (3-6 shots) and four rebounds in 22:35. It was the first game for the German big man in Europe after eight years in the NBA.

Matthew Strazel provided Monaco with 18 points while Mike James had 14 points and seven assists. After a balanced first half (46-46), their team overpowered ASVEL 31 – 12 in the third quarter to establish a double-digit advantage.

Although Monaco scored just six points in the final period, ASVEL was unable to come back in the game. Andre Roberson notched 17 points plus 11 rebounds and Theo Maledon scored 13 on 3-11 shots.
