Le Portel won what might be proven to be a quite decisive clash for the French League playoffs against ASVEL Villeurbanne 82 – 58. They improved their record to 14 – 13 and took the eighth spot that leads to the playoffs, previously held by the defending champs.
Not only is Villeurbanne now ninth with 13 – 14 but is also behind Le Portel when it comes to the tiebreaker. Jakim Donaldson (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Frank Hassell (13 points, 13 rebounds) and their double-doubles dominated the ASVEL from which only Darryl Watkins (13 points, 10 rebounds) truly stood out.
First Monaco (24-3) proceeded with a hard-earned victory over Orleans (8-19) and second Chalon Saone (20-7) sent Nancy (6-21) closer towards second division. Meanwhile, Limoges (13-14) took a precious road win over Chalon Reims (9-18).
